Elvis Presley single-handedly changed the course of music in the mid-1950s. In the midst of this, he also single-handedly changed culture in America. Elvis’ music, dance moves and style became the norm and heavily influenced the way people dressed, danced and listened to music. But, his influences reached far beyond music.

In 1977, President Jimmy Carter, speaking of Elvis said, “His music and his personality, fusing the styles of white country and black rhythm and blues, permanently changed the face of American popular culture. His following was immense, and he was a symbol to people the world over of the vitality, rebelliousness, and good humor of his country.”

Since his rise to fame, Elvis has been infiltrating pop culture in a variety of ways.

6 of Elvis Presley’s Most Interesting Appearances in Pop Culture:

3. Other Pop Culture Icons Are Named After Him

Naming a baby is a big responsibility. If you go with Moses– there’s a lot to live up to. If you go with Lauren you end up having four best friends with the exact same name. And if you go with Elvis, you’re naming your baby after the most defining cultural icon of the 20th century. It’s a lot to live up to, but somehow Elvis Costello has done it. He even changed his (stage) name to Elvis as an adult. So, really, naming yourself Elvis when you’re a performer is a lot of responsibility.

4. Elvis Can Help You Win the Lottery

In Pennsylvania, an Elvis image is on a $2 instant Pennsylvania Lottery Game.

5. Everyone Dresses Like Him
