Pop goddess Katy Perry is best known for her over-the-top costumes, outrageous hairstyles and catchy songs like “Firework,” “California Girls” and “I Kissed A Girl,” but I bet you didn’t know that she’s also had a hand in writing a number of hit songs for other recording artists.
Working with infamous talents such as Kelly Clarkson, Iggy Azalea, Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez and Sia, Katy has definitely proven that she not only has the voice of an angel, but she writes like one too.
Katy can do it all, folks.
8 Songs You Didn’t Know Were Written By Katy Perry:
1. “I Do Not Hook Up” // Kelly Clarkson
After being dropped by Def Jam in 2007, Katy passed “I Do Not Hook Up” along to Kelly Clarkson.
The track would’ve appeared on Katy’s record One Of The Boys in 2008, but Kelly recorded and released the track for her record All I Ever Want in 2009.
2. “That’s More Like It” // Selena Gomez
Katy gave “That’s More Like It” to Selena and her band, The Scene, for their third record When The Sun Goes Down in 2011.
And then, a year later, Katy’s version leaked, containing slightly different lyrics than the original.
3. “Time’s Up” // Ashley Tisdale
“Time’s Up,” which was originally titled “Love is a Train,” was passed on to Ashley in 2009 and retitled for her second record Guilty Pleasure.
And here’s Katy’s version, which was also leaked, I guess.
4. “Passenger” // Britney Spears
Katy co-wrote “Passenger” with Britney and songwriting genius Sia in 2013.
The song was originally intended for Katy’s album Prism, but ended up being cut from the final release.
5. “Breakout” // Miley Cyrus
Originally meant for Katy’s One Of The Boys, “Breakout” was handed down to Miley while she was still filming her hit Disney Channel show “Hannah Montana.”
6. “Girl Next Door” // Jessie James
Katy and Jessie co-wrote “Girl Next Door” in 2009.
Katy even sang backup vocals for Jessie on the track.
And then, her solo recording of the song was leaked a few months later.
7. “Black Widow” // Iggy Azalea and Rita Ora
“Black Widow,” which was originally supposed to appear on Katy’s Prism, was passed on to Iggy for her 2014 debut album The New Classic.
8. “Rock God” // Selena Gomez
It’s mystery how “Rock God” ever slipped out of Katy’s hands. It’s obvious that the lyrics, attitude and beat are perfect for her.
But, I have to say, Selena did a pretty good job with it.
And here’s Katy’s version — which was, again, leaked.
