If you aren’t a fan of Allison Janney, you probably haven’t watched “The West Wing,” Or you know, a dozen other films or TV shows Janney has starred in. She’s truly one of the best and most-liked actresses of her time.
Throughout her storied career, Janney has won a BAFTA, SAG, EMMY and Golden Globe. (And yes, she’s been nominated for a Tony.) During the 90th Annual Academy Awards, she added an Oscar to her list and with it, delivered one of the greatest acceptance speeches of all-time.
While heading to the stage to accept the award for her work in “I,Tonya” as Tonya Harding’s mother, LaVona Fay Golden, she hugged the movie’s writer and her co-star, Margot Robbie– totally normal.
As she got on stage and was preparing to speak, she paused for the audience to yell a little bit and then delivered the line, “I did it all by myself…”
Of course, she went on to say, “My fellow nominees, you represent everything that is good and right and human about this profession. You are all extraordinary.”
She also thanked that parrot, “a cast and crew and… BIRD that elevated my work.”
How can you not love Allison Janney?!
Also, Janney’s win for Best Supporting Actress means that the last two actresses to win that category were in “The Help” together and Octavia Spencer took home the award in 2011 for her role in that movie. Pretty cool company.
During a recent appearance on “The Elllen Show,” Janney talked about working with that bird.
