Choosing to sing “All I Ask” from the massive 25, Gilman took his larger-than-life voice to a whole new level of vulnerability. At one point, it seemed as if he was fighting to hold back tears. Probably like a lot of other people watching.
Gilman’s vocal range and ability to show some emotional depth wasn’t lost on his coach Adam Levine, “You can sing all the perfect notes. But it doesn’t matter if you don’t feel it. . . for the first time you made me feel something. It was so pure and real and honest.”
Billy moved on to the Top 10 of the competition.
