As “American Idol” winds down its final season and enters the Top 8, let’s remember our two favorite Idols and their Top 8 performances.

Carrie Underwood // “American Idol” Top 8 // “Love Is a Battlefield”

The theme for Carrie‘s Top 8 performance was “birth year,” so of course, she chose Pat Benatar’s “Love is a Battlefield” from 1983. It also seems our current country queen was sick this week, as evidenced by her sniffles in the pre-roll video.

She gave us a big kick at the end of the rock song, which led Simon Cowell to call her a “kitten trying to act like a tiger.”

Kelly Clarkson // “American Idol” Top 8 // “You Make Me Feel (Like a Natural Woman”

Kelly‘s Top 8 theme was “1960s,” which, in theory, put everyone on the same level. Except, someone made Kelly wear that hat. And that hat meant she had to really sing that week to move on.

The judges like Kelly’s performance a little more than Carrie’s. It must’ve been that hat.
