The storied racing career of Dale Earnhardt Jr has come to an end and the tributes have come in from all areas of the racing community. Goodyear, a longtime sponsor of both Dale Jr. and his father, made a nostalgia inducing commercial for Jr. following him from his early days watching his dad in the garage to his recent retirement.
After a lingering concussion last season, Earnhardt made the decision to take one final lap before stepping out from behind the wheel. Earnhardt, 42, is a14-time Most Popular Driver and has won 26 times in 603 starts over a 19 year career. Though he is stepping out from behind the wheel, Earnhardt will stay heavily involved in the sport he grew up around. Fans will still have a chance to watch Earnhardt race two final times in the NASCAR XFinity Series in 2018.
Racing is in his blood. He may be driving a truck and sitting behind a desk, but Earnhardt’s life will always be near the speedway.
