Like most of us, the news of Carrie Fisher‘s death hit Ellen DeGeneres like a freight train.

The two, who had been friends for many years, spent a lot of time creating memories and laughs on Ellen’s show. So, in order to honor her as the dear friend and great talent she was, Ellen took a moment to reminisce on the great times they had together.

“I wanna say something about my friend, Carrie Fisher,” Ellen said on Wednesday’s episode of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” “I knew her for a long time. She has been on the show many times, and the last time was just a month ago. And I loved when she was here. She made me laugh so hard. She was smart, she was funny, she was hilariously honest about herself and the world around her.”

Ellen then cut to a video montage of Carrie’s most memorable appearances, including the time she handed out “Star Wars” tickets while wearing Princess Leia buns on the side of the road. The video also paid tribute to Carrie’s mother, Debbie Reynolds, who died one day after Carrie.
