A new year means new movies at the box office, and 2018 holds lots of promise for action-movie fans. It’s another year full of sequels and adaptations, but there are also a few never-been-told, stand-alone movies that look promising as well.
8 ACTION MOVIES TO LOOK FORWARD TO IN 2018:
1. “Tomb Raider” // Release date: March 16
When her father goes missing, the bow and arrow-wielding Laura Croft jumps into action retracing her father’s steps in search of a mythical island and a legendary tomb.
2. “Ready Player One” // Release date: March 30
Set in the not too distant future, Wade Watts escapes a rather bleak reality by logging onto a virtual reality game called, “The Oasis.” When the game’s billionaire founder dies, he leaves behind clues to his fortune, which can be found in the game. Watts’ reality and virtual reality collide as he seeks to follow the clues and find the fortune.
3. “The Commuter” // Release date: January 12
Michael (Liam Neeson) is an ordinary insurance salesman on his daily commute home when he’s contacted by a complete stranger who asks him to solve a puzzle on the train. The puzzle quickly turns into a psychological game with deadly consequences as Michael races to win the game before the last stop.
4. “Black Panther” // Release date: February 16
Following the events of “Captain America: Civil War”, King T’Challa (AKA the Black Panther) returns to his home nation of Wakanda to serve as his country’s leader, but factions within his country challenge his right to the throne. When two enemies threaten to destroy Wakanda, the Black Panther teams up with a CIA agent as well as members of the Wakandan special forces to prevent Wakanda from being torn apart or pulled into a world war.
5. “Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom” // Release date: June 22
This sequel to “Jurassic World” isn’t about saving man from dinosaurs. It’s about saving dinosaurs from an active volcano…..
6. “12 Strong” // Release date: January 19
Following the events of September 11th, a Special Forces team is deployed to Afghanistan with the goal of taking down Taliban.
7. “Ocean’s 8” // Release date: June 8
Move over guys, there’s another Ocean in town. Danny Ocean’s sister, Debbie, puts together a crew of her own to pull off a grand heist at New York City’s Met Gala. The official trailer for the spinoff has not been released, but this star-studded photo of the cast is enough to get fans excited.
8. “Han Solo: A Star Wars Movie” // Release date: May 25
So far there’s no trailer for this one, though most fans hope the trailer will be unveiled during the previews for “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” on December 15th. Here’s what we do know. Ron Howard’s directing, and Alden Ehrenreich will play Han Solo in this stand-alone movie about Han Solo and Chewbacca’s adventures before joining the rebellion.
