It’s been a while since “Thank God I’m a Country Boy” has been in the spotlight, but last week in Jimmy Fallon’s music room the Avett Brothers brought it back into the mainstream with their upbeat, really fun and really, really well done version of the hit.

Unfortunately, Fallon didn’t perform the tune with the group, but we did get to see a lot of up-close shots of their outfits which were obviously purchased at NYC gas station or something.

The song was originally released on John Denver’s 1974 album Back Home Again. A live version was recorded and released on a later album in 1975 and was released as a single and that eventually went to No. 1 on both the Billboard magazine Hot Country Singles and Billboard Hot 100 charts. The song topped both charts for one week each.

The Avett Brothers are currently on a US tour.
