All you really have to do today to be “famous” is get noticed on camera doing something weird. You then become a meme, the internet like you for a moment, you get on “Ellen”, meet your hero, and return to obscurity. That is the sum and total of the “Selfie Kid” story. He was on his phone while Justin Timberlake performed next to him during the Super Bowl, became a meme, went on “Ellen”, and met Justin Timberlake via phone call.
It was awkward. But what do you expect? He’s a teenager being thrown into immense fame pretty quickly. The really neat part of the whole thing is how generous Ellen, JT, and the NFL are about this kid’s momentary fame. Simply for being noticed, he and his family recieved:
- A VIP experiences at Justin Timberlake’s upcoming show in Boston.
- A VIP expereince to a Patriots home game
- 4 pregame field passes
- Patriots gear
Not a bad consolation prize for your team losing the Super Bowl. Excuse me, I need to get busy trying to get noticed so I can get on “Ellen.”
