Throughout this season, the 16-year-old athlete has proven time and time again that she has the talent, grace and perseverance it takes to be a great dancer. Though she faced her fair share of hardships while on the show, Laurie pushed through the pain, coming out stronger on the other end — and this showed in her dancing.
For Laurie, this win is right up there with getting gold at the Olympics.
“The Olympics, as a little kid, it was such a big goal that I created for myself and I was able to push through and make that happen,” Laurie told USA Today. “I’ve always loved to dance and my passion was dancing as well as gymnastics, so winning the mirrorball today was insane and amazing,”
She also revealed that her mirror ball will be sitting right alongside her Olympic gold medals.
Earlier in the night, Laurie and Val took the stage to perform one last time. Dancing a foxtrot and and tango to “We Are The Ones” by Myon, they proved, once again, why they are the best of season 23.
