SNL’s Leslie Jones Impersonated 7 of Will Ferrell’s Most Famous Characters and We Can’t Stop Laughing

When I was in middle school and junior high I used to tape “Saturday Night Live” every Saturday night and watch it immediately after church on Sunday. Sometimes, I would make it through the first couple of skits on Saturday, but even if I did, I re-watched the VHS several times before recording over it. Like most kids my age, I longed for Will Ferrell and Cheri Oteri’s cheerleaders to be on. I loved Ferrell as Alex Trebek and my brother and I asked each other “if you were a hot dog, would you eat yourself” a lot because of his Harry Caray impression.

Ferrell was on the show for 7 years before embarking on Hollywood stardom, since leaving in 2002, he’s hosted three times and is set to return this weekend for the fourth time.

To prepare for his hosting gig, SNL cast member Leslie Jones donned seven of Ferrell’s most famous roles and acted them out much to Ferrell’s disdain. Even better, she really didn’t nail most of them– minus the More Cowbell guy– she nailed him. Look at Ferrell’s face, he seems genuinely terrified by everything Jones is doing. And classically, he didn’t even crack a smile.

Ferrell’s Trebek was almost always met with Darrell Hammond’s Sean Connery as his nemesis. Connery could never pronounce categories correctly.

To this day when I see a Dodge Stratus on the road I yell, “I drive a Dodge Stratus!”

After playing President George W. Bush for years on SNL, Ferrell revived the character in 2017 at the Not the White House Correspondents Dinner, where he brought out his classic quip, “gotcha.”

There’s no reason this Get Off the Shed skit is funny, but it’s memorable and still hilarious years later.

As Spartan cheerleader Craig Buchanan, Ferrell got to cheer for things like chess, swim meets and other events where cheerleaders are usually inappropriate.

And of course, Ferrell as fictional Blue Öyster Cult member Gene Frenkle has been curing cowbell fever for years.
