The New Live-Action “Little Mermaid” Movie Isn’t Anything Like the Disney Version

We’re all excited about the new, live-action version of Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” because it’s the classic tale come to life. So when I saw the headline “live-action Little Mermaid” I expected the same thing: a retelling of Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” with real people.

Nope. Not at all.

Disney isn’t even associated with the new, live-action movie, “The Little Mermaid.”

So that means no Ariel, no Eric and most importantly no Flounder or Sebastian.

Instead, it follows the classic Hans Christen Andersen tale. IMDB describes this version as “A young reporter and his niece discover a beautiful and enchanting creature they believe to be the real mermaid.”

The film stars Poppy Drayton as the mermaid, who Downton Abbey fans will remember from that one awesome episode as the honorable Madeleine Allsopp. And Shirley MacLaine is also on board.

This version is due out in 2017.
