Englishman James Corden didn’t quite get the White House tour he signed up for, but he did get to do some carpool karaoke with First Lady Michelle Obama. And there were no secret service agents in the car.
After being hassled by White House security, the First Lady jumped in Corden’s car and the two maybe drove around in circles on the White House grounds. Obama admitted this was one of the first times since moving into the White House she’s been in the passenger’s seat of a car jamming out. The duo started off white Obama’s favorite Stevie Wonder before moving on to the Beyonce classic, “Single Ladies.”
Obama knew every single word to the song. Every single word. She also knew the dance moves.
After they finished up the song the First Lady brought some jokes by saying, “we just dropped the mic in the Beyhive…we were making honey to put in our lemonade!” (The Beyhive is Beyonce’s fan club and Lemonade is her newest album.)
Obama also consulted Corden on what his secret service codename could be– he chose Tiramasu.
Suddenly, Missy Elliot was in the backseat rapping and dancing. Corden called it a Girl Power Squad. Elliot is featured on “This Is For My Girls,” the anthem inspired by the Let Girls Learn initiative.
While the Beyonce dance moves were wonderful and it was nice to know how much Michelle Obama loves Stevie Wonder, absolutely nothing (nothing) compares to the last 3 minutes of the ride.
The First Lady of the United States of America sang and rapped to Elliot’s “Get Ur Freak On.”
I’ve never been more proud to be an American and I’m sure her daughters have never been more embarrassed.
