Mario Kart’s Target Takeover Turns Superstores into Race Tracks, Local Teens Rejoice

Target, in a recent attempt to grow their video game market share, has agreed to become a live action Mario Kart race course. Ok, not literally, but that’s exactly what will happen when local teenagers and youth group leaders discover that Target has rebranded 650 of their Super Store’s to celebrate the release of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

Target turned their front doors into starting lines and shopping karts into Mario Kart-themed race cars, essentially creating a playground for bored kids across the country. If any kid is tentative, scared to break the rules or get in trouble, Target gives them the literal green light and command “GO!” on their front door.

Maybe that’s what the marketing powers-that-be want–more disruptive teens in their store trying to go viral. Regardless of what Target wants, they are sure to see a wave of literal cart racing surge through their stores. The promotion is only around until the April 28 release of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, though it’s not hard to imagine them shutting it all down early to minimize the imminent damage from turtle shells, banana peels, and wandering bombs.
