Last week, I took to One Country’s Facebook page to ask fans what song they would sing if faced with elimination on a reality TV singing competition? I said I would sing Celine Dion‘s “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now.” Mainly, I would sing it because it’s over 7 minutes long, but also so I could really let loose and show off my impressive air drumming skills.
Dion’s Falling Into You was the first CD I ever owned. Since “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now” is so long, I did some math and figured out I’ve probably spent around 28,000 minutes of my life listening to the song. Maybe more.
Once, my church youth group spent a Sunday evening at the bowling alley. To entertain, confuse and annoy my fellow youth group members, I put $3 worth of quarters into the jukebox and selected “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now” five times in a row. It was almost 40 minutes straight of moments of gold and flashes of light.
If the show won’t allow a contestant to sing the entire song, all 7 minutes and 38 seconds, what’s the point?
