Aside from the brightly colored
flowers, unexpected rainstorms and green leaves on trees, there’s another unavoidably clear indicator that spring has, in fact, arrived — the incredibly sweet marshmallow treats, Peeps.

Ever since their release in 1953, Peeps have been a signature treat of the springtime, and even though they’re actually available all year-round, spring is
definitely peak Peep season.

And while no one around here is denying that these little chicks and bunnies taste absolutely incredible by themselves, there are so many fun, out-of-the-box things you can do with these marshmallow-y treats.

From
wreaths, to s’mores dip, to dinner table center pieces, Peeps are so much more versatile than you probably realize.

6 Things You Can Do With Peeps (Besides Just Eat Them):

1. Peeps Rice Krispies Treat

data-instgrm-captioned data-instgrm-version="4" style=" background:#FFF; border:0; border-radius:3px; box-shadow:0 0 1px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.5),0 1px 10px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.15); margin: 1px; max-width:658px; padding:0; width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);">

Ingredients:

  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 4 3-ounce packages Marshmallow Peeps (4 different colors)
  • 6 cups crispy rice cereal
Directions: Line an 8-9″ loaf pan with foil and spray with cooking spray. Divide the Peeps in groups of 10 of the same color — 10 pink, 10 blue, 10 green, etc. In a microwaveable bowl, microwave 10 of the same color peeps with one tablespoon of butter for 45 seconds. Stir and repeat if necessary until the Peeps and butter are completely melted and combined. Add 1 1/2 cups of cereal to the Peep mixture until fully coated. Press into the bottom of the pan. Repeat steps with the other Peeps colors. Once all layers have been added to the pan, let cool for 1-2 hours before serving. Enjoy!

Ingredients:

  • chocolate chips
  • Peeps (any color(s) you want)
  • graham crackers

Directions: Place chocolate chips in the bottom of a skillet, cover them with Peeps, bake at 450 degrees for 8-10 minutes or until the marshmallows are toasted on top. Then, dip your graham crackers into the mixture. Simple as that — enjoy!

Ingredients:

  • Peeps (any color(s) you want)
  • fruit (any kind you want)
Directions: Layer the ingredients on a skewer and bam, you have a delicious treat. Enjoy!

5. Peep Wreath

data-instgrm-captioned data-instgrm-version="4" style=" background:#FFF; border:0; border-radius:3px; box-shadow:0 0 1px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.5),0 1px 10px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.15); margin: 1px; max-width:658px; padding:0; width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);">

Supplies:

  • 4-5 packages of Peeps (any color(s) you want)
  • straw or styrofoam wreath
  • toothpicks
  • craft glue
  • clear acrylic sealer
  • optional: ribbon
Directions: Take all of your peeps out of the packaging and let the sit out and get a bit hard/stale for one day or so. Once sufficiently hardened, take your toothpicks and pose them randomly into your wreath — it’s personal preference on how close or how far apart you want them. Then, dab a little dot of glue onto the bottom of your Peep and skewer it onto a toothpick. Repeat this process until all of the toothpicks are holding a peep. After you are done, let the wreath sit and set for about one day. Then, spray the entire thing with clear acrylic sealer and attach a bow to the bottom or top of the wreath, if desired.

6. Peep Sunflower Cake

data-instgrm-captioned data-instgrm-version="4" style=" background:#FFF; border:0; border-radius:3px; box-shadow:0 0 1px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.5),0 1px 10px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.15); margin: 1px; max-width:658px; padding:0; width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);">

Ingredients:

  • 1 package yellow cake mix
  • 2 cans (16 ounces each) chocolate frosting
  • 19 to 20 yellow chick Peeps
  • 1-1/2 cups mini semisweet chocolate chips
Directions: Make the cake mix according to the directions on the box. Bake it in two parchment paper-lined and greased 9-inch round baking pans. After baked, let cool completely before removing from pan. Once cooled, spread the frosting between the layers, over the top and on the sides of the cakes. To create petals, arrange the Peeps around the edge of the cake — make sure to leave no gaps in between the Peeps. To create sunflower seeds, sprinkle mini chocolate chips in the center of the cake. Enjoy!
