Whether you’re flying to a different state or to a different country, packing isn’t necessarily a cake walk. It’s all too common to be in a rush and forget the essentials, or on the other side of the spectrum, to completely overpack. Check out these tips and tricks for your next trip that’ll help you pack more efficiently.

6 Tips To Help You Pack For Your Upcoming Trip:

1. Don’t forget your Ziplock bag!

If you’re flying, the liquids you take in your carry-on need to be 3.4 ounces or less and must fit into a quart-size bag.

2. Try rolling your clothes.

If you’re worried about not having enough space in your suitcase or want to avoid wrinkles in your clothing, try rolling your clothes instead of folding them.

3. Make a list.

To avoid overpacking, plan out some outfits beforehand and write a list. This is a great way to visualize what you’re taking and to avoid overpacking.

4. Pack an extra outfit in your carry-on.

If you’re planing on checking a bag, make sure you put at least a t-shirt and pair of underwear in your carry-on. If your luggage is lost or doesn’t arrive on time, you’ll have at least something to change into the next day.

5. Leave room in your suitcase.

Don’t travel to your destination with your suitcase already at the maximum allowed weight. You’ll regret not being able to take home any souvenirs, and let’s be real: this means you most likely have packed way too much.

6. Wear the most valuable jewelry you’re taking with you.

While putting expensive jewelry in checked baggage is obviously not a smart idea, putting it in your carry-on isn’t exactly fool-proof either. Things get stolen — that’s life. Keep the amount of expensive jewelry you’re taking with you to a minimum, and try to wear most of it on the plane.
