You’re Doing it Wrong: 3 Common Face Washing Mistakes


The daily task of washing your face seems simple enough, right? Turns out that the majority of us get it wrong. The skin on your face is very delicate and shows signs of distress when not properly washed. This can mean dryness, irritation, oiliness, and even breakouts. Washing your face properly is imperative to keep skin looking younger and healthy.

So what mistakes are you making?

1. You aren’t using the right cleanser.

Knowing your skin type is important when choosing the cleanser best for your skin. A cleanser should completely remove dirt, makeup and grime but not strip too much of the natural oils away. If you have dry skin, you need a gentle, non-foaming cleanser. If you have normal to oily, a foaming cleanser will help remove oils that can cause breakouts.

2. You exfoliate too much. 

Exfoliation is a great way to remove dead skin cells, but moderation is key. Take a break from the grainy exfoliants and replace them with a lactic acid product. And please, step away from the buffing pad. It’s your face, not a tile floor.

3. You wait too long to moisturize.

Applying your moisturizers or other special treatments to dry skin makes it more difficult for the active ingredients to sink into your skin and do their job. Apply these products immediately after washing your face. It helps seal moisture in your skin.
