For many couples, the most exciting part of wedding planning is putting together the perfect honeymoon. It’s the perfect excuse for an extended vacation from life, and it gives you the opportunity of a lifetime to get out with your soulmate and see the world.
There are plenty of things to think about when getting ready for your honeymoon, like packing, scheduling activities, coordinating travel arrangements, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be fun.
DOs and DON’Ts: Perfect Honeymoon:
DON’T: Feel like you have to take a week-long trip to make the honeymoon fantastic. Looking back 10 years from now, you probably won’t remember every little detail about your trip. Instead of spending your money on five or six nights, spend it on three or four, then add some once-in-a-lifetime experiences to really punctuate your honeymoon.
DO: Start with a grand adventure, then wind down and relax before your trip ends. It’s always best to leave your trip totally relaxed and return to the real world ready to take on life.
DON’T: Lay around on a beach doing nothing for a week – it may sound great now, but you’ll regret it later.
DO: Check school vacation times before you book your hotels or resorts. Trust us – you don’t want your honeymoon to be picking your way through college Spring Breakers all week.
DON’T: Pack your schedule with so much to do that you forget to just enjoy each other. This is a honeymoon, not a family vacation. Take time to soak up each other’s presence without over stimulating yourselves.
DO: Research where you’ll be staying. This can be everything from how many stars the destination has, to the area surrounding the resort to what side of the resort do you want your bedroom to be.
Are you wanting to see the sunset from you balcony? Plan ahead.
DON’T: Skimp out on yourselves! If there was ever a time to splurge – it’s on your honeymoon. Spoil yourselves and – if only for one day that whole trip – forget the budget and treat yourselves.
DO: Bring home a keepsake of wherever you go for your honeymoon.
DON’T: Forget to make time for yourself through the planning stages. Being stressed out isn’t good for anyone, and it can wear you out mentally and physically. Remember to breathe and keep reminding yourself that everything will be perfect because you’ll be with your perfect someone.
DO: Get eight hours of sleep every night leading up to the wedding and honeymoon. Oversleeping won’t be a problem once you’re relaxing next to your love on a beach somewhere, but take care of yourself beforehand to maximize relaxation later.
DON’T: Try to pack at the last minute. If you’re wanting to leave after the wedding (even the next day), pack your bags at least a week in advance to cut down the stress.
DO: Ditch technology for a few days and live free. We know, you want to take all the pictures and upload them to Instagram or update your family on Facebook about all the fun you’re having. Trust us – it can wait! Don’t waste your honeymoon behind a phone, get out there and make so beautiful memories.
