Eat and Listen: Katy Perry’s ‘Teenage Dream’

Now that the weather is warming up, I’m tempted every night to break out my grill and throw any type of food on it to cook (S’mores wrapped in foil. Trust.) There’s just something about grilling in the summertime that is extremely all-American. Do you know what else is all-American? Katy Perry. And who doesn’t love Miss Perry? Her pop tunes are the soundtrack of my summer, and I find myself returning to my copy of Teenage Dream when the temperature turns 76 degrees. So, break out the grill (or grill pan from Ikea if you’re lazy like me) and serve up these American classics with a twist at your next BBQ.

Last Friday Night Martini

“Yeah we danced on tabletops, maybe took too many shots…”

2 oz good Vodka (Kettle One is my spirit of choice)

1 oz X-Rated Liqueur (It’s in the pink bottle)

Cotton Candy

Splash of Club Soda

Beware! This drink is going to be extremely sweet. If you have an aversion to sugary-sweet drinks like me, you might want to go for your favorite domestic. But, how can you not have cotton candy in a Katy Perry-themed drink?

Pour vodka, X-rated, and ice into a cocktail shaker and shake with ice. Place puff of cotton candy in the martini glass, and pour mixture over the candy. Top with club soda or sparkling water. Sip, and enjoy!

Firework Stuffed Mac & Cheese Pepper

“Baby, you’re a firework! ”

1 red pepper

1 box Kraft Macaroni and Cheese

1 slice American Cheese

Cayenne Pepper

Salt and Pepper

Shredded Pepper jack

Prepare macaroni and cheese according to the directions on the box. Before you mix the noodles in, be sure to add the extra slice of American Cheese to the powder mixture. Mix in cayenne, paprika, cumin, salt and pepper. Hollow out your red pepper and stuff with macaroni and cheese and pepper jack cheese on top. Wrap in aluminum foil and throw on the grill for 5-7 minutes. Remove, and enjoy.

California Girls Potato-Chip Hotdog

“Fine, fierce, fresh, we got it on lock.”

Hotdog buns

All-Beef hotdogs

Kettle Cooked Potato Chips (I like Cape Cod, but whatever you prefer)

Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ Sauce

Iceburg Lettuce

Shredded Sharp Cheddar

Throw one of those all-beef hotdogs on the grill. (I like all beef because I feel like in some way I know what I’m eating). Also, you can add a bit of butter to your hotdog buns, and throw them on the grill as well. Remove the hotdogs, and add BBQ sauce to the buns, and top with cheddar cheese, BBQ sauce, and crushed potato chips. A new spin on your old favorite!

It’s almost summertime. Put on your Teenage Dream album, fire up the grill, and have a night you’ll never forget!
