There is nothing better than a maxi dress on a hot summer day. They are perfect for keeping us cool while still looking fashionable like a true Southern Belle. However, as with any trend, there are a few guidelines to help make sure you are getting the most out of your outfit!

Here are the DOs and DON’Ts of the Maxi Dresses

DO: Wear a flat or cute sandal with your maxi dress. Stilettos are too dressy and boots just look weird.

DON’T: Wear your maxi dress if the length is wrong. If it’s too long it looks messy, if it’s too short, well, it looks like it doesn’t fit.

DO: Keep it simple. Maxis were meant to be laid back and straight forward. Chill on the ruffles, bows and busy prints.

DON’T: Forget to keep things in proportion. Balance is key to making sure it looks great!

DO: Throw on a belt if you want to show off your waistline. Just make sure the width of the belt works with the dress.

DON’T: Forget you can easily throw a denim or leather jacket on to glam up your look a little.

DO: Wear a casual wedge with your maxi. And this is an easy way to make a too-long dress the right length.

DON’T: Forget to pay attention to the neckline. A halter looks great on everyone, V-neck elongate and a sweetheart neckline accentuates your curves.

DO: Not purchase a maxi with long sleeves. Nobody should ever wear that amount of fabric at one time.

DON’T: Forget to keep accessories simple. Let the maxi dress be the star of the show!
