July 4th, undoubtedly, is the epoch of American holidays. One everyone can participate in. Though the Declaration of Independence was originally signed on July 2, 1776, even Founding Father and second President John Adams knew the day should be a giant celebration, writing to his wife after the signing, “The Second Day of July 1776, will be the most memorable Epocha, in the History of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance by solemn Acts of Devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more.”

So, if you’re going to celebrate July 4th the right way, the ways Adams intended, you have to party like a Founding Father.

7 Ways to Party Like a Founding Father on July 4th:

1. Get your pomp on.
Pomp around and be boastful. This is best done in public.

2. Put on a shew.
Not just any ol’ shew, a big one! With some really patriotic tunes.

3. Play some games.
Since it’s an American holiday, play trivia or beer pong.

4. Play a sport.
Only sports that were invented in America though! So, baseball or something like dog skateboarding.

5. Ring a bell.
Try to find a big one, like the Liberty Bell or something.

6. Start a fire.
Nothing illegal, just a bonfire in your yard.

7. Illuminate the sky from one end of the country to the other.
Find every firework you can get your hands on and light ’em up!

Ain’t no party like a Founding Father party.
