We all come from somewhere. Before winning 23 gold medals and attaining the title of most decorated Olympian of all time, Michael Phelps was just a dorky teenager with questionable hair.

At the time of this interview, Phelps was just a day shy of his 16th birthday, having already attended the 2000 Sydney Olympics, and coming in 5th for the 200m butterfly event. This would be the last time he wouldn’t medal in an Olympic event, before taking the world by storm in Athens, Beijing, London, and Rio.

But in this interview, Phelps is more worried about his upcoming driving test. He has big goals, but he admits to not being able to live a normal teenage life. As happy as he’s been in Rio this year, though, it was probably worth it. Check it out.
