Chip and Joanna Gaines have proven themselves to be experts on all things home renovation, but now they’ve shown that their family is full of green thumbs, too.
In lieu of a regular home renovation on “Fixer Upper,” Chip and Joanna tackled their own family garden at their farmhouse in Waco and to no surprise, the space ended up being insanely beautiful. From gorgeous blooms to fresh produce, Joanna said that a lot of the vegetables, fruits and herbs they grow in this garden will be used as ingredients at their soon-to-open restaurant in Waco, Magnolia Table.
Inside Chip and Joanna Gaines’ New Garden:
Chip and Joanna built this “potting shed” out of wood salvaged from a barn floor and antique doors. “Now that the kids are a little older, it’s the perfect time to build a larger garden and a garden shed– Maybe shed is the wrong word,” Joanna said. “Maybe it’s garden house.”
Probably more accurate.

Chip and Joanna put in an arbor over the garden’s central path that will soon be covered in vines and fruit.

Joanna said she hopes her daughters will one day want to get married on the cottage steps here. Can’t you just imagine??

Chip said he wanted his boys, Duke and Drake, to help plant saplings so they could literally see the fruits of their labor. “There’s something about digging these holes here in the garden [and] planting these trees,” Chip said. “Fifteen, twenty years from now I can imagine them coming back and seeing the fruits of their labor, and I’m telling you, it will be a lesson well learned.”

Clint Harp built Chip and Joanna a teakwood table that he made super long for their growing family, and he custom-turned the table’s legs so they each have a turnip as the foot.

Joanna enlisted the help of her daughters, Ella and Emmie, to plant rosemary, lavender, oregano, and sage.

And how gorgeous are their hyacinth blooms? Joanna intentionally planted the beans to have them wind up some custom-built teepees to create a dramatic hyacinth wall.

Of course, they added on a coop for their chickens and turkeys. Honestly, it’s the cutest chicken coop I’ve ever seen.

Joanna wanted the inside of the garden house to be a space where the whole family could relax– she added in a library, an old easel with watercolors, and a dining table.

The space even has a little fireplace for chilly nights. Can’t you just imagine enjoying a cozy meal in here?

And of course, the farmhouse sink deserves a moment of recognition. That Joanna knows how to pick ’em.

They closed off the garden area with a classic white fence to make it blend in with the rest of their property.
