Ladies, it’s that time of year again. No, not Spring. The Masters– a tradition unlike any other. The Masters is the South’s premiere event (outside of an SEC football game) that happens every April at the Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia. The Masters is the first major (a golf term for a really, really big tournament) played every year and people who don’t like or even play golf usually watch.

If you’re like me, golf is a little bit out of your realm. But, for this event, you don’t have to get behind golf as much as you need to get behind the pageantry of the whole thing. This is one event in the South where you won’t see any camo or a giant truck covered in mud. It’s the South’s time to get classy and shine for an entire weekend on worldwide television.

If you find yourself watching The Masters this weekend, here are a few things to know:

WHO: Here are some names to listen for: Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Adam Scott, Ian Poulter, Phil Mickelson, Bubba Watson. A lot of these guys could win or have won in the past.

WHAT:  The Masters is one of the four major championships in professional golf and is the first of “the majors” to be played each year.

WHERE: Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia. Always.

WHEN: The Masters starts on Thursday and goes through Sunday.

WHY: There are a lot of pretty flowers and fun landscape-y things to look at. There are a lot of really fun outfits to check out and the guys change outfits everyday! AND the winner gets a fancy green jacket. If you ever win the green jacket you get invited to a secret club, which usually involves a special dinner every year.

The guys playing (golfing?) are not bad looking.

You can take a pretty decent nap and not miss all that much. Don’t let this nap happen on Sunday though, that’s the most important day.

FUN FACTS: The 11th, 12th and 13th holes are collectively known as “Amen Corner.”

There used to be a tree named after President Eisenhower, but they cut it down. He hit it a lot. (Which is really bad.)

There you have it! Kick back with the adult beverage of your choice and enjoy a weekend of golf!
