Maybe CMT created an award just to honor Chris Stapleton at the 2015 CMT Artists of the Year awards, but so what– he deserves it.

Last month, Stapleton was honored with three CMA Awards– Album of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year and Best New Artist. His debut album spent a couple of weeks atop the all-genre Billboard 200 chart and he wrote a No. 1 single for someone else.

Plus, he made everyone in the world a country music fan.

He performed his latest single, “Nobody to Blame” with wife Morgane by his side at the show and every person in attendance was singing along.

Country music icon, Lee Ann Womack presented the ever-humble Stapleton with his trophy, where he thanked everyone who supported him before and after his CMA wins and closed out with a poignant statement about his career and life, “Life has a funny way of turning into what it’s supposed to be.”
