Tim McGraw will perform Glen Campbell’s final song, “I’m Not Gonna Miss You,” at the 87th Annual Academy Awards next Sunday, February 22. The song, written by Campbell and producer Julian Raymond, is a nominee in the category of Original Song. The song is prominently featured in the critically acclaimed documentary “GLEN CAMPBELL…I’LL BE ME.” Having already won Best Country Song at the GRAMMY® awards last weekend, The Hollywood Reporter’s awards analyst Scott Feinberg has named “I’m Not Gonna Miss You” his top pick in this year’s Oscars race.
Kim Campbell, Glen’s wife, who will be in attendance at next week’s ceremony, has released a photo she found of her and Glen meeting McGraw and Faith Hill in 2000. The photo is signed by McGraw and Hill along with a personal message: “To Glen and Kim…Thanks for the Music.”
McGraw was selected to perform the song in Glen’s place as the Country Music Hall of Fame member battles the final stages of Alzheimer’s in a care facility in Nashville.
McGraw said of performing in Glen’s place: “I’m honored to be asked to sing this powerful song from one of the true legends of the music industry.”
Kim Campbell added, ““We are thrilled that Tim McGraw will be singing ‘I’m Not Gonna Miss You’ on Glen’s behalf at the Academy Awards®. Glen was a fan of his music and Tim is sure to bring great emotional depth to the performance.”
Celebrities such as Reba McEntire and Brad Paisley tweeted Glen over the weekend in hopes he will win the Oscar next Sunday.
The music video for “I’m Not Gonna Miss You” is nearing eight million views on VEVO. The GLEN CAMPBELL…I’LL BE ME Soundtrack will be released on Tuesday, February 17.
