Tim McGraw Responds To March For Our Lives, “I Say Right On!”

Tim Mcgraw has been one of the few country artists to speak his mind on gun control in recent weeks. As NRA Country has remained silent, Tim McGraw has stood up to support the students and children standing up against gun violence. After the March For Our Lives, an unprecedentedly large rally for common sense gun control, McGraw posted to social media to support the cause.

McGraw posted a video of 9-year-old Yolanda Renee King, the eldest granddaughter of Martin Luther King Jr, leading marchers in an encouraging refrain, “Spread the word! Have you heard? All Across the nation, we are going to be a great generation!”

“These kids are an inspiration,” McGraw wrote in the caption of the video. “They are the hope of our world. No matter what, you have to applaud and appreciate their spirit, and their fortitude! I say right on!”

While his post encouraged bipartisanship, it elicited anger. Reactions to his post were mixed but primarily negative:

  • “Sheep…. unfollow and done buying”
  • “❤️❤️❤️”
  • “Lol! You’re gonna have a lot of people to respond to on this post. Good luck bc I bet some will be a lot more confrontational than I am. ✌?out”
  • “Your moral courage to say something you know a lot of your followers and fans might disagree with is really nice to see. Supporting these kids is the right thing to do for reasons that should not have to be explained to adults. So I say, good for you.”
  • “No, I will not applaud them. I am disappointed that you would even post this on your account.”
  • “Can’t believe you agree with what they are doing. But you are so detached from real life with all your riches I suppose you don’t really notice anymore. My choice will be not buy ur [sic] products any longer or pay astronomical prices for a concert ticket to see you.”

Country artists have typically stayed out of politics, but artists have recently spoken out against country’s more conservative base to staunch opposition. It may be that more artists make their views known now that someone as universally beloved as McGraw has spoken out.
