Pop princess Ariana Grande had everyone scratching their heads in May 2018, when she met and later got engaged to Saturday Night Live star Pete Davidson.
But now, in a new interview with Vogue, Grande is opening up about just what caused the romantic sparks between the two in the first place.
“And then I met Pete, and it was an amazing distraction,” Grande said of meeting Davidson when she moved to New York City following her break up with her former boyfriend Mac Miller. “It was frivolous and fun and insane and highly unrealistic, and I loved him, and I didn’t know him. I’m like an infant when it comes to real life and this old soul, been-around-the-block-a-million-times artist. I still don’t trust myself with the life stuff.”
Of course, Grande has often been faced to deal with some rather cruel ‘life stuff’ in recent years, including the death of Miller from an accidental drug overdose.
“By no means was what we had perfect, but, like, f—,” Grande said in the interview about her relationship with Miller. “He was the best person ever, and he didn’t deserve the demons he had. I was the glue for such a long time, and I found myself becoming… less and less sticky. The pieces just started to float away.”
