Less than a year after the tragic death of their daughter Emmy, Olympic skier Bode Miller and wife Morgan are expecting another child. The announcement was made on Wednesday (May 8) on CBS This Morning.
And while Miller refrained from talking too much about the pregnancy other than to confirm it on the morning talk show, he was on the set to discuss his recent partnership with American Academy of Pediatrics. A new series of PSAs, created in part by Miller, will alert other parents to the dangers of drowning.

“Kids are crafty and they get out fast and this whole process, I think the terrifying part about this time of year is you know the kids are thinking it before the parents are,” said Miller, who was also joined on set by Nicole Hughes, a parent who also lost her child to drowning. “It happens quick and it happens when you’re not swimming. You’re cooking and the kid’s gone for that amount of time and you’re left with a lifetime of, sort of, regret.”

Merry Christmas to our baby girl in heaven. We miss you so much! …….. 2018 has been a year full of overwhelming sadness and overwhelming joy. We have spent half of the year mourning and attempting to heal the loss of our angel which feels like an impossible battle all while celebrating the birth of our son. Seeking normalcy for our children has been our driving force forward. Normally I would be looking forward to a “fresh beginning” in 2019 but there is no more starting fresh after the loss of a child. So here’s to a healthy 2019 full of personal growth and creating many memories with my babies, full of smiles and laughs. Wishing everyone a special holiday season surrounded by loved ones.
Miller also touched on the fact that there are soon to be more products to come out on the market to ensure that pools become safer to children.
“These are things that were sort of an evolution of safety,” Miller said. “And there’s a bunch of stuff coming out right now that I’m excited to launch in the market … Parents can’t watch a piece of water, you know a pool, all the time. It’s just not realistic.”
Miller and his wife, Morgan, were pregnant with their son, Easton Vaughn Rek Miller, when they lost their 19-month-old daughter, Emmy, to a drowning in a neighbor’s pool in 2018. Easton was born four months after Emmy’s passing, in October, and one month before her second birthday.
“If there’s one thing that can kind of help to heal and fill that spot in your heart, it’s a baby,” Bode said after the birth of his son. “Besides the lack of sleep, it’s been a really nice process to be able to go through. There’s a blessing to being so busy. We see the path forward a little bit. It’s just kind of, keep it going and trying to stay positive, but it’s not easy. I don’t think it gets that much easier.”
The new baby will be the couple’s sixth child.
