Earlier this year, Olympian Bode Miller and his wife, Morgan, experienced the unimaginable when their daughter lost her life after drowning in a neighbor’s pool.

Since her death, the Millers have welcomed a new baby boy, shining a little light onto their darkest days— and on the first holiday season without their little girl, they are doing their best to find joy.

Morgan took to Instagram to share a series of family photos, one of which the family is surrounding a giant framed photo of their late sister and daughter, Emmy. “Merry Christmas to our baby girl in heaven,” Morgan started. “We miss you so much!”

She went on to say that while 2018 has been nothing short of a rollercoaster emotionally.

“2018 has been a year full of overwhelming sadness and overwhelming joy,” she said. “We have spent half of the year mourning and attempting to heal the loss of our angel which feels like an impossible battle all while celebrating the birth of our son. Seeking normalcy for our children has been our driving force forward. ”

While most are planning their resolutions for 2019, Morgan admits that this year feels different.

“Normally I would be looking forward to a “fresh beginning” in 2019 but there is no more starting fresh after the loss of a child,” she said.

Instead, she is hoping for a year of growth and joy.

“So here’s to a healthy 2019 full of personal growth and creating many memories with my babies, full of smiles and laughs. Wishing everyone a special holiday season surrounded by loved ones.”
