Just a few short weeks after the world lost George H.W. Bush at the age of 94, his granddaughter Jenna Bush Hager faced the Christmas holiday without not only him, but also her grandmother Barbara.

And just like her grandparents wanted, she did it with a smile on her face.

The picture, which was shared on Instagram, showed the Today star with her family, including her husband Henry Chase Hager and daughters Margaret and Poppy Louise. The photo also showed her sister Barbara, her new husband Craig Coyne, and their parents George and Laura.

“Merry Christmas from the Family,” she wrote.

And while we could imagine that this particular holiday was a rough one for the family without the rocks of their family by their side, God knows that in their heart, they knew their grandparents are in a better place now.

“Waking up missing this giant of a man who gave me everything,” Hager wrote on her Instagram page on December 1 shortly after her grandfather’s death. “He taught me and my family about service, family, decency, the power of gentle words and a beautiful heart. I will miss him desperately but so happy he and my Grandmother are back together.”
