As the world continues to mourn the somewhat shocking death of The Cars front man Ric Ocasek, more details regarding his passing are beginning to come out.
According to People magazine, Ocasek was found unresponsive and unconscious in his Manhattan townhome Sunday afternoon (Sept. 15) by his estranged wife and model Paulina Porizkova. He was 75 years old at the time of his death. While the New York Police Department declared Ocasek dead at the scene, they have yet to announce the official cause of death.
In the hours since his passing, the “Shake It Up” and “Drive” hit maker has been eulogized in various tweets from music legends such as Tim McGraw, Peter Frampton and Billy Idol.
“Man…so saddened to hear about the passing of Ric Ocasek, lead singer of The Cars and legendary producer to many,” McGraw wrote on Monday (Sept.16,) just days after releasing his own cover of The Cars’ classic “Drive.” “His music was inspirational to me. Our thoughts go out to all of his family, friends and fans.”

Last May, Ocasek and Porizkova split after 28 years of marriage. They had two sons together. On Monday (Sept. 16,) the model thanked fans for their love in the hours following Ocasek’s passing with the simple words “Thank You,” captioning a photo of flowers placed in memory of Ric.
We send our condolences to all those mourning Ocasek’s passing.
