It’s been a while since Bill Gates went to the grocery store. I don’t know how rich one has to be to stop running errands, but he is obviously far beyond that. Se when Ellen asked him to price some basic grocery store items, he struggled. Hilariously so. But everyone still won a prize–a good one, too.
I don’t blame his ignorance. It’s like asking me about where the DOW Jones stands. I don’t know. I don’t put much effort into that world. He is so rich that he doesn’t have to worry about the cost of anything. Why would he keep up with random grocery prices?
But, still, those guesses were hilarious.
Rice-A-Roni: guessed $5, actually $1
Laundry Detergent: over-corrected and said $4, actually $20 He was appropriately shocked.
Floss: He nailed it at $4. Note: he thinks laundry detergent and floss cost the same.
Pizza Rolls: $22, actually $9. The audience prize was on the line with that guess, and they got help but their reaction was great.
TGIF Spinach Artichoke Dip: $10 because it was “branded”, actually $4
