Chris Cuomo had to announce the one thing that he had hoped wouldn’t happen. On his show Wednesday night (April 15), the CNN host announced that his wife Cristina Greeven Cuomo has tested positive for coronavirus.
As Chris spoke with his brother, Governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo, on his show Cuomo Prime Time, he shared the news.
“Families all across the state and the country are experiencing… its very rare for a family to be one and done,” Chris told his brother. “Cristina now has COVID, she is now positive and it just breaks my heart. It is the one thing I was hoping wouldn’t happen and now it has.”
Families all over know the reality our family faces: few are one case and done. Sure enough, Cristina has covid now. Kids are still healthy but this shook us at our literal core. All are stepping up. Can't wait to shake this fever so I can help her as she helped me. Sucks. pic.twitter.com/ncyoQ3saWc

He went on to say, “Obviously I’ve been a little bit of a mess about it today so I’ve been talking to Andrew about it a lot. The person who’s not upset is Cristina. Cristina takes everything in stride and so far we’re hoping, and a lot of this is anecdotal because we don’t know that much, she lost her sense of smell and taste. This is not science, but anecdotally the case that I hear about that are more mild tend to have that. I didn’t have that.”
Chris has been quarantined in his basement for the past couple of weeks doing his show, while battling the virus. He has been taking viewers through his symptoms and his experience with the virus. When Chris revealed he contracted the virus, his one hope was that he didn’t pass it on to his family.
Sooooo in these difficult times that seem to get more difficult and complicated by the day, I just found out that I am positive for coronavirus,” he said in a statement. “I have been exposed to people in recent days who have subsequently tested positive and I had fever, chills and shortness of breath. I just hope I didn’t give it to the kids and Cristina,” Cuomo continued.. “That would make me feel worse than this illness!”
Chris also shared his advice that helped him fight the virus.
“When the fever spikes, you want to curl up in a ball and stay there for the next six or seven hours and you can’t. You’ve got to bundle up your clothes on and drown yourself in fluids and take Tylenol,” he shared. “You’ve got to force yourself to breathe, force yourself to get off your a** and walk around. It hurts. Everything in your body is telling you not to do it. The more I do, the more I push myself to do, the better I’m getting. So, I’m going to take faith in that for now. I’m not through it, but that’s good [to remember].”
The 49-year-old host shared the video news on Instagram with a caption that read, “few are one case and done. Sure enough, Cristina has covid now. Kids are still healthy but this shook us at our literal core. All are stepping up. Can’t wait to shake this fever so I can help her as she helped me. Sucks.”
We wish the Cuomo family a speedy recovery.
