There are moments in life that you will never get back. Moments when everything is quiet and the sun is shining and time is standing still. NASCAR great Dale Earnhardt Jr. experienced one of those precious moments on Monday (Oct. 29,) and decided to share it with the world.
In a pair of pics shared on his Instagram page, the NBC analyst can be seen staring into the eyes of him and wife Amy’s baby daughter Isla Rose, who was born on April 30.
It’s these moments that the former racer is getting to enjoy now that he is retired from full-time racing – a decision he chronicles in his new book “Racing to the Finish: My Story.”
The book also goes into his recovery from a series of concussions, and the very real role his wife played before Isla was born.
“If Amy wasn’t there, I would have laid in the bed all day and thought about how [lousy] this situation was,” he says in a recent interview. Who knows how far down that rabbit hole I would have gone?”
Just think if he had…just how much he would have missed.
“Whenever I felt like I was emotionally slipping, she was right there,” he concludes. “I just can’t see how somebody with that type of injury could do it by themselves.”
