NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt Jr. and wife Amy are speaking out about the incident, five days after escaping a terrifying plane crash in Tennessee.
And yes, it sounds as if they realize just how lucky they are.
“Amy and I want to thank everyone who has lifted us up with phone calls, messages and prayer since last Thursday,” read a statement shared on Earnhardt’s Instagram page on Monday (August 19.) “We are truly blessed that all on board escaped with no serious injuries, including our daughter, our two pilots and our dog Gus. With respect to the investigation, we will not be speculating or discussing the cause of the accident. I am thankful for the quick response of my pilots, local law enforcement, emergency personnel and hospital staff. Lastly, Amy and I continue to be very appreciative of the privacy extended to us to process everything. It has been important to do that together and on our own time.”
Monday also marked the first time Amy herself remarked publicly about the accident, which took place as the family’s private plan was attempting to land at Elizabethton Municipal Airport in Tennessee last Thursday (August 15.)
“God is good,” read the caption on an Instagram post Amy shared with fans on Monday (August 19.) The accompanying pic showed her laying on a couch as her and Dale’s daughter Isla gave her a kiss.
Isla was on board the doomed plane along with her parents, two pilots and the family dog Gus when it burst into flames upon landing. Since the accident, the family has been spending some much-needed time at home together, ensuring that both their physical and emotional wounds heal in the days, weeks and months ahead.
