Demi Lovato is not taking things lying down. The singer who has recently returned to social media, spoke out about a recent headline that referenced her weight.
Demi took to Instagram to let the world know that she has more going on than just her weight.
“I AM MORE THAN MY WEIGHT,” she writes alongside an image of the Inqusitor headline that read, “Demi Lovato Appears to Have a Fuller Figure After Working Up a Sweat in LA.”
“Unlike the past, I’m not triggered, I’m not upset that someone wrote a headline about my “fuller figure” I’m angry that people think it’s okay to write headlines about people’s body shapes. Especially a woman who had been so open about being in recovery from an eating disorder. I’m not upset for myself but for anyone easily influenced by the diet culture,” Demi shared in her post.
“Too many people today base their ideal body weight off of what OTHERS tell us we should look like or weigh,” she continued. “Articles like these only contribute to the toxic way of thinking. If you’re reading this: Don’t listen to negative diet culture talk. You are more than a number on a scale. And I am more than a headline about my body shape.”
But in a turn of events, Demi also shared the apology she got from the writer and how they turned a negative situation into a positive one.
The write apologized to Demi in a direct message and took full responsibility.
I thank you for your apology. Maybe you can write an article about this experience,” Demi replied. “Taking it down won’t take away what’s already up there. Unfortunately I had to use this an an example to make a statement about these types of headlines and how damaging it is, not for me but the readers.”
After more apologies, Demi went on to compliment the writer with the way he was receiving the message. “My intention wasn’t to hurt you either…just to get your attention. I’m sorry if this woke you. Thank you for being so understanding.”
Demi then went on to tell her fans, the #lovatics, to now be nice to the writer after their fierce support had him shaken.
“I appreciate your support but he learned his lesson and we never respond with hate, only love,” she added.
