Taron is said to have performed all the songs in the movie himself. In an earlier trailer, music producer Gilles Martin said, “Elton said, ‘I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone sing my songs better than Taron.’ The great thing about Elton is he wants Taron’s interpretations of his songs.”

The premise follows the extraordinary life of Elton John from his early years at the Royal Academy of Music, through his musical partnership with Bernie Taupin (Jamie Bell), and his battle with addiction and acceptance of his being gay.
