Elton John is gearing up for the release of his upcoming biopic, Rocket Man. The new film, which stars Taron Egerton as Elton, follows the extraordinary life of of the pop icon from his early years at the Royal Academy of Music, through his musical partnership with Bernie Taupin (Jamie Bell), and his battle with addiction and acceptance of his being gay.
During his annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards viewing party, Elton and the Rocketman star, Taron. teamed up to perform Elton’s iconic hit, “Tiny Dancer.” Elton sat behind his signature piano playing along as he let Taron take the lead.
“Its funny how life turns out,” Taron said from the stage before kicking off the song. We’re sure Taron never imagined he’d be on stage with Elton John, performing one of the superstars biggest hits as he played piano for him. Dreams do come true.
In a trailer for the movie, music producer Gilles Martin revealed something that Elton shared with him. “Elton said, ‘I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone sing my songs better than Taron.’ The great thing about Elton is he wants Taron’s interpretations of his songs.”
The film, directed by Dexter Fletcher, stars Taron, Jamie Bell, Richard Madden, and Bryce Dallas Howard and will hit theaters on May 31.
