Emily Blunt Says Her Dad Lost It Seeing Her as Mary Poppins

With two children under the age of five, actress Emily Blunt certainly has her hands full. Yet, courtesy of her starring role in the movie Mary Poppins Returns, Blunt hopes to stay cool in the eyes of her kids for many years to come.

“I’m going to dine out on that until they’re teenagers and I become inevitably uncool,” Blunt said about using her Mary Poppins voice with her kids. Taking on the iconic role of Mary Poppins, Blunt says she has been careful not to dwell too much on the performance of the role’s original actress Julie Andrews.

“Julie Andrews is so beautifully brilliant in that first one and I didn’t want to sort of be intimidated by it and by what she did,” Blunt said during the “Good Morning America” interview. “And so I just decided to read the books –she’s quite different in the books so I just took it from there.”

And yes, her performance has already left many in tears.

“Most people cry when they see this film–even my most cynical of friends,” she said of the movie. “My dad too. My dad, truly it was a memory I will have on my deathbed because he doesn’t cry and he was overcome. He just was beetroot red from trying not to cry when he saw me.”
