The ‘Empire’ Cast Write Letter In Support of Bringing Jussie Smollett Back to Show

Several weeks after the January 29 alleged attack of Empire cast member Jussie Smollett on the streets of Chicago and the now realization that it all seems to have been a hoax, his cast mates not only continue to defend him, but support the idea of bringing him back to the show.

“Together, as a united front, we stand with Jussie Smollett and ask that our co-star, brother and friend be brought back for our sixth season of Empire,” a letter sent to the Fox and Disney network and retrieved by E! News read. “Throughout Empire‘s five seasons working with Jussie and watching how he has conducted himself throughout this traumatic event, we have come to know not just the character Jussie portrays, but also truly come to know Jussie’s personal character. He is kind. He is compassionate. He is honest and above all he is filled with integrity.”

The letter was signed by a number of cast members including Smollett’s fellow Empire co-stars Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson.

Smollett, who plays middle son Jamal Lyon on the primetime series, still maintains his innocence in the attack, which originally had him facing years behind bars for staging a racist attack against himself.
