It’s the story that’s taken a thousand turns and continues to do so. Empire actor, Jussie Smollett, has officially been arrested for “Disorderly Conduct / Filing a False Police Report.”

On Jan. 29 Jussie reported that he was attacked by two men who beat him up, poured bleach on him and put a noose around his neck, while shouting racial slurs and referencing MAGA country (Make America Great Again—the slogan President Donald Trump used during his election campaign).

After investigations took place, the police questioned persons of interest, brothers Olabinjo (Ola) and Abimbola (Abel) Osundairo. That’s when the story took a turn and the police had “new evidence” that switched their attention toward Jussie. The brothers were released without charges.

Since that day, the case has divided the country on the legitimacy of Jussie’s claims, he even went so far as to appear on “Good Morning America” to talk with Robin Roberts about the attack.

“It feels like if I had said it was a Muslim or a Mexican or someone black, I feel like the doubters would have supported me a lot much more, and that says a lot about the place we are in our country right now,” Jussie said.

He went on to say, “I respect too much the people, who I am now one of those people, who have been attacked in anyway. You do such a disservice when you lie about things like this.”

Well, the most recent developments in the case have Jussie charged with the felony of  filing a false police report.

According to Chicago PD spokesman Anthony Guglielmi, Jussie is in police custody.

“Press Briefing: Jussie Smollet is under arrest and in custody of detectives,” Anthony Tweeted. “At 9am at Headquarters, Supt Eddie Johnson, Commander of Area Central Detectives Edward Wodnicki will brief reporters on the investigation prior to the defendants appearance in court.”

Jussie’s attorney’s have issued a statement regarding Jussie’s presumption of innocence and that fight for his defense.

“Like any other citizen, Mr. Smollett enjoys the presumption of innocence, particularly when there has been an investigation like this one where information, both true and false, has been repeatedly leaked,” wrote Jussie’s attorney’s Todd Pugh and Victor Henderson after Jussie’s indictment. “Given these circumstances, we intend to conduct a thorough investigation and to mount an aggressive defense.”

On Wednesday evening (Feb. 20), the Chicago Spokesperson also shared the charges levied against Jussie.

“Felony criminal charges have been approved by against Jussie Smollett for Disorderly Conduct / Filing a False Police Report. Detectives will make contact with his legal team to negotiate a reasonable surrender for his arrest,” wrote Anthony Guglielmi.

The brothers, Ola and Abel, were brought in for questioning and are cooperating with police, testifying in front of a grand jury for over 2 hours, according to GMA.

According to NBC News, Jussie is due in court for a bond hearing at 1:30 p.m. CT Thursday.

And so… the saga continues.
