Monday (Oct. 7) was a big news day for The Voice.
Not only was it announced that Nick Jonas would be joining Blake Shelton, John Legend and Kelly Clarkson as a coach in 2020, but also that Gwen Stefani will not be joining them in the red chairs.
And while many might be wondering the real reason Stefani won’t be returning after just signing on for season 17, the actual reason is simply that the show routinely shifts coaches to keep things interesting.
And heck, Stefani is quite busy. Next year, the music hit maker will return to Las Vegas to resume her Just a Girl residency during both February and May of 2020. And yes, that’s the same time The Voice will be airing come spring.
But have no fear. Everyone knows that Stefani likes to stay busy, and gosh knows she may be looking for an excuse to work with her boyfriend Shelton again!

“I didn’t expect to be doing [the Vegas show] and The Voice at the same time,” she said during a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight. “I just feel like I’m alive in a way I’ve never been before, because I have to be! Because doing both is a lot.”
