Just months after losing her grandparents on her father’s side, Today co-host Jenna Bush Hager finds herself mourning once again. Her grandmother, Jenna Welch, passed away last Friday (May 10) at the age of 99.

“Waking up thinking of my precious namesake, Jenna Welch who passed away Friday,” Hager wrote on Sunday (May 12) on her Instagram page alongside a slide show of precious pics. “How lucky I was to be named after a woman who taught me how to slow down and appreciate every bird, and every plant in West Texas.”

Welch was the mother of Jenna’s mom and former first lady Laura Bush. Laura Bush’s father passed away from cancer and dementia back in 1995.

“Her kindness and graciousness were as expansive as the West Texas horizon,” Hager added. “So happy she’s reunited with her great love, our Pa after almost 25-years apart. Thinking of my mama too who lost her little mama right before Mother’s Day.”

On Monday, Hager also appeared on the Today show to share her thoughts about the passing of her grandmother. And in true Bush fashion, she tried her best to keep the mood light.

“We had a little service for her,” Hager said. “As my dad (former President George W. Bush) said, when you are 99, most of your friends are gone.”
