We all know Jennifer Hudson could sing the phonebook and it would be mesmerizing. But put her on a stage to sing the song “Memory” from Cats and all bets are off.
As Universal closed out their presentation at the CinemaCon conference in Las Vegas, they had a big surprise in store for the audience. Jennifer, decked out in a white gown and long white jacket, walked out and nailed the well-know tune from Cats, a musical composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber, based on T.S. Eliot’s book Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats.
Jennifer is set to star in the film version of Cats along with all-star cast, Idris Elba, Ian McKellan, Rebel Wilson, Judi Dench, Taylor Swift and James Corden. She will be taking on the role of Grizabella, which was originated by Ellen Paige in the London production in 1981.
The movie will be directed by Tom Hooper, who directed “The Kings Speech.” IMDB explains the movie premise as “A tribe of cats called the Jellicles must decide yearly which one will ascend to the Heaviside Layer and come back to a new Jellicle life.”
Cats will hit theaters in December. Check out Jennifer’s version below.
