Back in June of 2013, former NFL great Jim Kelly made the shocking announcement that he had been diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma in his upper jaw. And from that moment on, it has been a winding road of doctor’s visits and operations and bad news. But now, there just might finally be a light at the end of the tunnel for this sports legend.
In an Instagram post shared by Kelly’s wife Jill on Wednesday (Sept. 5,) the Buffalo Bills Hall of Famer was shown holding two thumbs up with two of his doctors.
“Two thumbs up, two gifted doctors and one amazing man with a smile and some temporary teeth,” she writes. “Another milestone reached in a very long, difficult, and painful oral reconstruction journey.”

Two thumbs up. Two gifted doctors. And…One amazing man with a smile and some temporary teeth. Another milestone reached in a very long, difficult, and painful oral reconstruction journey. Again, thank you for praying. And thank you to all who shared prayer requests. It was a privilege to pray for you. God is faithful!
The couple’s deep faith has undoubtedly helped in this long and winding journey, and it’s this faith that continues to bring hope not only to the Kelly family, but to so many who are dealing with the same situation.
“Thank you for praying,” Jill writes. “And thank you to all who shared prayer requests. It was a privilege to pray for you. God is faithful!”
We send our well wishes to the Kelly family as they continue on in their cancer journey. Here’s to better days ahead!
