Ninety-four-year-old Jimmy Carter is on the road to recovery after breaking his hip on Monday (May 13.) The former President of the United States was on his way to a turkey hunt when he fell and suffered the injury.

“He is recovering comfortably from surgery to repair a broken hip at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus, Georgia,” the Carter Center said in a tweet. “His surgeon stated that the surgery was successful. His wife, Rosalynn, is with him.”

President Carter has demonstrated his sheer toughness in recent years, having survived a bout with cancer in recent years. And from the sound of it, this hip injury certainly won’t slow President Carter down if he has anything to do with it.

“President Carter said his main concern is that turkey season ends this week, and he has not reached his limit,” the Carter Center said. “He hopes the State of Georgia will allow him to roll over the unused limit to next year.”

President Donald Trump also sent out his well-wishes to the former President.

“Wishing former President Jimmy Carter a speedy recovery from his hip surgery earlier today,” the President wrote. “He was in such good spirits when we spoke last month — he will be fine!”
