Julianne Hough and husband Brooks Laich are calling it quits after three years of marriage.
“We have lovingly and carefully taken the time we have needed to arrive at our decision to separate,” they said in joint statement to People. “We share an abundance of love and respect for one another and will continue to lead with our hearts from that place. We kindly request your compassion and respect for our privacy moving forward.”
The news comes shortly after Julianne revealed to her husband that she was “not straight,” and Brooks took time to explore his own sexuality.
“People think that sexuality is just the act of sex, of just having sex and there’s so much more to it. Here’s a question. This is an honest question for everybody in this room, and every single person listening: Are you fully 100 percent fully expressed in your true sexuality? With your partner? With everything? You could not imagine having a better sex life? Are you truly there?” he asked. “I’m not either. So that’s what one of my goals this year is to really dive into. So then we’re all essentially, that’s a state of suffering.”
As the couple have been quarantining separately during the coronavirus pandemic they have come to the mutual decision to separate.
“They’ve been having problems for months,” a source told People as rumors about their marriage began to swirl. “She’s very independent and a free spirit, and that’s been tough for Brooks and their marriage.”
Speculation of the couple splitting up came when Julianne was spotted on a New Year’s Eve special with Carson Daly not wearing her wedding ring. Brooks took to Instagram during the same time period to express his upcoming year.
“In 2020 I look forward to releasing old identities, and stepping into a new chapter in my life. I find myself wanting to officially say the words “I retire” from professional hockey, instead of vehemently resisting it as I have been for the last 2 years. I feel a new stage of life calling me, and though I don’t exactly know what it is yet, it feels right, and exciting!”
The 31-year-old singer/actress, who came to public attention on Dancing with the Stars, and her hubby became engaged in 2015. They tied the knot in July 2017 in an outdoor ceremony outside of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
We’re wishing the couple the best as they move ahead on their individual journey.
